Metamorphosis is the most complete form of liberation. The massive butterfly at center symbolizes ontological revolution from oppression to freedom, while countless surrounding crystalline forms share the same liberating energy at different stages of transformation.
Oriental pigments seeping into hanji reveal each being’s interior with transparent depth, while ink pen’s black lines become vessels of life, organically connecting all forms. Hierarchy of size becomes meaningless, and hanji’s white space becomes a universe of infinite possibility.
This is complete transformation from oppression to liberation, from resistance to soaring. Transformation’s most beautiful completion, where personal metamorphosis expands to communal liberation.

변태는 가장 완전한 해방의 형태다. 이 작품에서 나는 그 찬란한 순간—억압된 존재가 진정한 자유를 획득하는 변화의 정점을 포착한다.
화면의 중심을 가로지르는 거대한 나비는 변태의 완성체다. 땅을 기던 애벌레가 하늘을 나는 존재로 거듭나는 순간, 그것은 단순한 생물학적 현상을 넘어 존재론적 혁명이 된다. 이 나비 주변으로 펼쳐진 무수한 결정체들—애벌레, 잠자리, 꽃봉오리, 점들—은 각자 서로 다른 변화의 단계에 있으면서도 모두 같은 해방의 에너지를 공유한다.
전통 한지 위에 흐르는 동양화 물감은 서구 매체로는 불가능한 침투와 확산을 보여준다. 색채는 종이 섬유 깊숙이 스며들어 숨을 쉬며, 그 투명성과 깊이는 마치 각 존재의 내면까지 들여다보는 듯하다. 먹펜으로 그어진 검은 선들은 이제 구속의 도구가 아닌 생명의 혈관이 되어, 모든 형상을 유기적으로 연결하며 에너지를 순환시킨다.

Artist Statement: Liberated Wings Flying Together
Metamorphosis is the most complete form of liberation. In this work, I capture that brilliant moment—the apex of transformation when an oppressed being achieves true freedom.
The massive butterfly crossing the center of the canvas is metamorphosis perfected. The moment when a creature that crawled on earth becomes one that soars through sky transcends mere biological phenomenon to become ontological revolution. The countless crystalline forms surrounding this butterfly—caterpillars, dragonflies, flower buds, dots—each exist at different stages of transformation while sharing the same liberating energy.
Oriental pigments flowing on traditional hanji demonstrate penetration and diffusion impossible with Western media. Colors seep deep into paper fibers and breathe, their transparency and depth seeming to peer into the inner nature of each being. Black lines drawn with ink pen are no longer tools of constraint but vessels of life, organically connecting all forms and circulating energy.
Hierarchy of size becomes meaningless here. Even the smallest dot possesses equal ontological weight with the giant butterfly. This is the aesthetics of true liberation—imperfect, small, or unglamorous, every being emits its own unique radiance.
The hanji’s white space is not mere emptiness but a universe of infinite possibility. Freed from the density of oppression, all beings now breathe freely, soaring toward their dreams at their own pace. Here transformation occurs naturally rather than by force, and individual character achieves harmony without ever becoming standardized.
This work paints complete transformation from oppression to liberation, from resistance to soaring. The moment when personal metamorphosis expands to communal liberation, when aesthetic experiment becomes ontological declaration.
